Old Roger Ribbit
by Gina Sutphin, illustrated by Joe Sutphin
Old Roger Ribbit, my ever sweet friend
He hops up beside me to give me hand
He loves this great earth as much as me too
So he shares all his wisdom on what I should do
He uses his thistle thorn just like a hoe
To create little rows where the new seeds should go
He serves them a drink from his tiny carved spoon
So they won’t get too thirsty in the hot sun at noon
When our green friends are threatened by weeds that should go
Again he pulls out his thorn thistle hoe
And when evening comes after long days worked hard
It’s time to sit back and enjoy this great yard
Then he hops off at dusk to his toad burrow hole
But he’ll hop back tomorrow to help new friends grow
