Hi there,
I’m Andrew Mackay and I’m the publisher at Story Warren Books. I don’t get to spend too much time over here at StoryWarren.com, but it’s always a joy to read the good work that James and the many contributors are doing over here.
I’m here today because we’ve got exciting news: Story Warren Books is now the home of the Tumbleweed Thompson Adventures. This is a uniquely Story Warren story: If you aren’t familiar, Tumbleweed Thompson started as a series of short stories written by Glenn McCarty for this very website. Joe Sutphin provided some illustrations for those posts… Yes, that Joe Sutphin, the Eisner award-winning illustrator of the Watership Down graphic novel, as well as other books you love like the Little Pilgrim’s Progress, Little Christmas Carol, and the Wingfeather Saga. And Glenn went on to publish, with the help of some of you via Kickstarter, The Misadventured Summer of Tumbleweed Thompson.
And now, a few years later, Tumbleweed Thompson and his friends come back home to Story Warren. We’re relaunching The Misadventured Summer of Tumbleweed Thompson. And, at long last, the second Tumbleweed Thompson adventure, The Golden Road of Tumbleweed Thompson is making its way into the world. Click here to learn more.
At Story Warren, we are allies in imagination. Glenn McCarty’s work fits that motto perfectly. Glenn is a brilliant writer, weaving tales of adventure and hilarious hijinks set in the West, in the Colorado Territory right around the time of statehood. These are stories your kids will love.
They’re available for preorder today at the Story Warren Store, shipping in mid-to-late November. For families who love the action and humor of series like the Green Ember, the Wingfeather Saga, Mr. Limoncello’s Library, and the Mysterious Benedict Society, the Tumbleweed Thompson Adventures provide fast-paced, hijinks-filled middle-grade novels with the added beauty of the American west and the classic feel of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.
Don’t miss out on some of the best American novels being crafted for kids today. Check out The Misadventured Summer of Tumbleweed Thompson and The Golden Road of Tumbleweed Thompson.
We love having the opportunity to bring you and your family great books that reflect the Story Warren ethos. We’re a small team of families, trying to do good work in the world. We are looking to continue to grow our publishing efforts, so if you have a completed manuscript that you think might fit into the kind of books we’ve published and tend to talk about, you can reach out to me at andrew-at-storywarren.com. We’re aiming to do 2-6 titles per year, so we have to say no to almost everything, but we are looking for more new stories with old souls.
And, if it’s not too presumptuous, can I invite you to pray for us? We believe that this work is tremendously important. There is an ocean of content being pushed on kids that at best is mediocre and at worst is actively bad for them. It feels like it’s a win when a child reads a book, and it’s an even bigger win when they pick up something like Charlotte’s Web or The Green Ember, or The Misadventured Summer of Tumbleweed Thompson, or The Restorationists, or… well, I could go on, but I won’t. Pray for us, and pray for kids to find soul-shaping, memory-making, darkness-shaking adventures that point their way to what is true, good, and beautiful in the world.
Thanks so much!
