Links for Holy Week
Holy Week and Resurrection Sunday have come up rather fast for me this year. Maybe it’s the same for you. Whether you’re wholly prepared to celebrate or skidding into the week barely hanging on, the list below is to serve you this week. I pray you have some time to consider the cross of Christ and the new life we have in him.
Easter Week in Real Time: Here’s a compilation of the week’s events day by day. These events are accompanied by the scripture references where they’re found. This list would be ideal for your scripture reading time, individually or with your family, this week.
With His Wounds We Are Healed: The Corner Room Music created this album with lyrics directly from Isaiah. There are also reflective instrumentals. This is a great resource both for scripture memory as well as meditation.
Resurrection Letters Anthology: Andrew Peterson’s project runs from the last words of Christ on the cross, through the resurrection, and on to the implications of the resurrection on our lives today. (Fun fact: he wrote the last one first.)
Handel’s Messiah: These compositions are often around in Advent and Christmastime, but they are equally as potent (perhaps moreso!) at this time of year. I am always moved by the unflinching “Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs,” and the alternating slow and fast of “Since By Man Came Death.” (If you haven’t spent any time with Handel before, you may have noticed: It’s straight from the Bible! The music reflects the tone of the verses. Give it a try!)
The Prince of Egypt: This week is a good time to remember the intense foreshadowing of the Old Testament Passover before the Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt. This film is a fairly faithful retelling. Of course you should screen it according to your kids’ ages and tolerances. There are disturbing scenes that are part of the story, in keeping with the story in the Bible.
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
