February Giveaway: Mended Wood Literary Society

Hi there,

This month’s giveaway has fled the algorithm-entrenched clutches of social media to float on a breeze into your email inbox. We hope you’re helped by the titles below, whether you win our copies or check them out at your local bookstore or library!

This Month’s Titles

The Risen One, Scott James. This book supplies devotional readings centered around Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. Though it’s designed for a ten-week study before Easter, you can jump in at any time! This book is doctrinally faithful, with short and sweet readings appropriate for the whole family. For more on Scott James’ family devotionals, go here.

Little Pilgrim’s Progress, Helen L. Taylor, illustrated by Joe Sutphin. There was a lot of hubbub around our giveaway edition of Sutphin’s Little Christmas Carol at Christmastime, so we know he’s a Story Warren reader favorite—and rightfully so! This children’s edition of Pilgrim’s Progress features Sutphin’s classic, beautiful illustrations.

Chicken SundayPatricia Polacco. This would be a good one for older children; it’s the story of a group of friends who work together to buy an Easter bonnet for a grandmother. Polacco always pays tribute to her diverse neighborhood, as in this story that has black families, Russian families, and one Jewish neighbor as characters. “How we loved to hear Miss Eula sing. She had a voice like slow thunder and sweet rain.” (If you like Polacco, you might also try out her folk tale called Rechenka’s Eggs.)

Miracle ManJohn Hendrix. Story Warren favorite John Hendrix wrote and illustrated this beautiful children’s book. Loren Eaton reviewed it a few years back for us. It is an account of Jesus’ earthly life, with special emphasis on his death and resurrection. My favorite illustration is probably the one from Resurrection Sunday:
