Story Warren Weekend, Vol. 14, Issue 7

Hello and happy weekend to you all,

I wanted to alert you game-playing families that Longtreader Games has expanded its reach a bit. You can now find and follow our games division on these platforms:

Plus, we’re still on X! Come give us a follow wherever you happen to be online. We’re excited to share the community that’s been building around Helmer in the Dragon Tomb.

Around the Web

A member of our community has begun a hymn series on Substack. Head to Every Morning New Mercies to read more. Here’s her entry on “For the Beauty of the Earth.”

I hope I am not in the habit of tooting my own horn here, but at my own Substack, I’ve just begun a series on hospitality which some of you might enjoy. You can find the first entry in the series right here. “Welcoming people takes many forms in many settings. While I am a big believer in the potency of a home that’s well-tended and well-loved, I first believe in the power of welcoming. Because I have been welcomed.”

Around the Warren

This week we had a recommendation of Children of the Forest from contributor Jessica Burke. “Children grow up, and they’ve moved on to new dreams, and sadly, none that I’m aware of involve the opportunity to howl at the moon or roast an obscene quantity of marshmallows over a fire. But I still have a toddler who needs to live and read in a way that enchants his heart and imagination to the magic found out of doors.”

This past Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, so we revisited an old favorite from Jonathan Rogers: “I didn’t grow up observing Ash Wednesday or Lent, but I have to say, at this age it helps to be reminded that I am dust and returning to dust. It’s not just a help, but a comfort. This world is forever demanding that we take it as seriously as it takes itself, and it tempts us to take ourselves too seriously too.”
