The Warren & The World Vol 12, Issue 32

September 14, 2024 by Carolyn Clare Givens Leave a Comment

It was a big week in middle-grade book releases! So many people we know and love released books this week—there’s an abundance of riches out there. Our friend Carolyn Leiloglou’s second book in The Restorationists series released: Between Flowers and Bones. You don’t want to miss this amazing, art-infused adventure. And then, another friend Matt Mellema, who has hosted S. D. Smith on his Believe to See podcast, released is debut novel, Red Rex with Bandersnatch Books. And last, but certainly not least, our own S. D. Smith released The Found Boys, a new adventure that explores deep themes of forgiveness and reconcilation.

Donuts, Ducks, and Drawing: A Dive into Robert McCloskey’s World

Our friends at Redeemed Reader interview the curator of the Rober McCloskey Museum in Hamilton, Ohio.

  • Today’s episode is extra special for all you classic children’s book lovers! I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Carrie Halim, the Curator of the Robert McCloskey Museum, who (let’s be honest) is basically living the dream.

Walking through the Fire: Why Nothing Stops Jesus’ Love for You

Joby Martin writes about grace—and the Georgia Bulldogs.

  • At my house, we’re Georgia Bulldog fans.
    Why? Because we’re Believers.
My Bible’s written in red and black, so just take it up with the Lord.
We’re pretty die-hard fans so we usually go to the opening game of the year. Georgia typically schedules the biggest cupcake team of the year for that game, and that’s my favorite kind of game to go to.

A Cinderella Heart

Isabel Chenot considers the heart of a character like Cinderella.

  • Once there was a gentleman who married, for his second wife, the proudest and most haughty woman that was ever seen. She had, by a former husband, two daughters of her own humor, who were, indeed, exactly like her in all things. He had likewise, by another wife, a young daughter, but of unparalleled goodness and sweetness of temper, which she took from her mother, who was the best creature in the world.
One of the things I love best about Charles Perrault’s “Cinderella”, collected in Andrew Lang’s Blue Fairy Book, is how the unparalleled goodness and sweetness of Cinderella’s temper only becomes more unparalleled, the more contemptuously she is treated.

A Few Favorites to Share in September

Kelly Keller shares her book basket!

  • These Book Basket articles are some of the most fun to put together because it means I talk to my kids (who are now ages 16-23) about the books we shared when they were little. They have different recollections from one another, plus the older kids returned to a different set of books than the younger ones did, just by virtue of the time elapsed and their own preferences.
