Story Warren Weekend, Vol. 14, Issue 36

Hello,

This past week was Hobbit Week, marking the remembrance of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins’ birthdays. It’s perfect that this fictional holiday falls in the oncoming fall; hobbits are the ideal inspiration for finding a snack, steeping some tea, and sinking into a chair with a good book. Did you do anything this week to mark the occasion?

Around the Web

Some of you may remember a review last year, all about Lamplighter Kids’ podcast. Recently Lamplighter Kids debuted their new YouTube channel, bringing their stories to the screen. Their first episode, Hamsternauts in Space: A Story About Courage, is available for viewing right here. Subscribe to their channel to be alerted when future episodes drop. If you prefer just to listen, you can find that option right here. Congrats to the Lamplighter team!

Christ Delights in Work Well Done. “God-honoring work hinges not on our actions but on the motivations driving them: Satisfaction rooted in the joy of the Lord rather than in professional ambition. Grit that runs on the joy set before us rather than sheer resolve. Flourishing that multiplies Christ’s joy in others rather than merely managing staff.… We were made to work and to enjoy God forever — and in Christ, those are never competing directives.”

Around the Warren

Recently Carolyn Leiloglou kicked off an effort at her church to fill out a library for kids. The response has been wonderful. Here’s more from Carolyn about How I Accidentally Became a Church Librarian. “I have to smile now when I see copies of Wingfeather Saga or The Green Ember books in the pews, because I know the kids in our congregation are being shaped in the best ways by reading them.”

We have a gold mine in the archives—lists of books for boys! We’ve been trying to resurface these from time to time for a new generation of families. Here’s a Show and Tell for you, from contributor Julie Silander. Many of these are “off the beaten path” selections, so you might need to do some hunting for some of the titles. They are worth it!

Something to watch

In case you missed it, our friends at The Wingfeather Saga are teasing their next season, coming October 21.

Thanks for reading. We’re on your side.
