Tim Keller on Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing by Sally Lloyd-Jones

November 28, 2012 by S. D. Smith 4 Comments

A few weeks back I shared why I love and appreciate the writings of my friend (yes, my friend –I’m rubbing it in) Sally Lloyd-Jones. It was sort of anticipatory to receiving Thought to Make Your Heart Sing. I had seen the book briefly, but we didn’t have it yet. Now we do. And wow. We love it. It would make a great gift for any young humans you might happen to love very much. But don’t take my word for it. Other bald people love it too.

“Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing may be the best, first introduction for children to have their own time with Jesus. It shares the same whimsical art [by Jago] as The Jesus Storybook Bible—one of my favorite gifts to friends, whether they have children or not—as well as Sally’s easy-to-understand prose. Best of all, it is saturated with an understanding of the Gospel, God’s love freely given to us, but purchased by Jesus. Although designed for children, these are thoughts that should make all of our hearts sing.”  Tim Keller, Redeemer Presbyterian Church

I actually gave it as a gift to four of my friends, not for their children (who are all grown anyway), but for themselves. If they choose to read it to their grandchildren, that’s a bonus.

I ask my husband to read it aloud at lunchtime – for me! I need the pick-me-up, to remember that Jesus loves me in the middle of it all.
