Good morning,

Eighteen years ago today, we were witnessing the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. How do I know that so readily? Because I was in the hospital, giving birth to our youngest child and only daughter. Much to her older brothers’ chagrin, we did not name her “Olympia Beijing.”

When your youngest is no longer legally a minor, it feels as though you ought to cross some threshold of parenting. But in reality, today will probably be made up of regular tasks like college application checklists and buying books for school. We will certainly celebrate her with a nice dinner. Glory amidst the mundane: this is parenting.
