Story Warren Weekend, Vol. 14, Issue 2

Good morning and happy weekend to you.
Last month, a friend gave me a lovely new candle as a gift. It smells exactly like fresh-baked bread. I love burning it, but sometimes I absentmindedly forget and end up confused. Why do I smell fresh bread when there is, in fact, no fresh bread to eat? Why would I do this to myself?!

When You Want a Different New Year & It All Feels Like Too Much. “In the midst of all kinds of uncertainty, strikingly, the disciples didn’t turn and ask Jesus: ‘Lord, teach us to strategize for the days ahead.’ Nor did they ask, ‘Lord, teach us how to prep, manage, reduce risk, contingency plan, or build habits, so we keep our heads above water & the days ahead are better than these.’ When feeling pressed up against all kinds of uncertainty, what Jesus’ disciples then, and Jesus’ disciples now, see as their most pressing need is: “Lord, teach us to pray.”
Want a Calm and Quiet Soul? Psalm 131 Can Help. “True and lasting rest comes not from a finished to-do list or orderly circumstances but from trusting God and humbly recognizing our place before him.”

On Monday Kailyn Clay brought us a review of a favorite biography: Lilias Trotter: Daring in the Desert. “Her artwork became an intrinsic part of her ministry, but not something that would define her to the world. Like the boy who handed Jesus his meager fish and loaves, God took Lilias’s talent and multiplied it to His own glory.”
Later in the week, Heather Cadenhead brought us a new look at the snow in “I Was the Snow.”
