Story Warren Weekend, Vol. 13, Issue 49

Hello!

Greetings to you, friends! Whatever this week-in-the-middle is bringing you, be it more rest than usual or more activity than usual, we pray you’re getting a moment or two to think on Immanuel, God With Us.

Around the Web

As you’re looking ahead to 2026, you might consider this post from Tim Challies, recommending devotionals and Bible reading tools for the year. There are all kinds of options here.

This is a classic winter solstice reading: The Coming of the Light. Heidi Johnston: “Taken in isolation, this day could be viewed as a victory for darkness. Without the benefit of history we could be forgiven for believing that the light will gradually be swallowed up and disappear. Armed with the bigger picture, we know that the longest night is simply a turning point. There are dark days still ahead but, from this night on, the coming of the light is inevitable.”

Around the Warren

In another look at the solstice and the Christmas holiday, we brought you the poem “Christmas, Whidbey Island, 1975.”

“There in the harsh particular /In drafts, and stench of cow manure /The squalls of Christ, Creator, sound/ Where God grasped not at Godhead in a child/ There only will the God of life be found.”
