A word from a seasoned older mama: Don’t waste your car rides.
I get it—time in the car with small children can be stressful. The tired baby who refuses to nap (or whom you’re trying to keep from napping), the hangry toddler, the melting down preschooler can all be a challenge when enclosed in a metal box hurtling through space at 45 mph. But for the calmer moments and the older years, make the most out of the hundreds of hours you will spend with your children in the car. Some of the best conversations I’ve had with my older kids have been on our way to school. Some of my fondest memories are from cranking up the radio on road trips and torturing our teens with the music of our youth (but I want it thaaaaaaaaaat way…). But most importantly, my children’s knowledge of Scripture has been exponentially strengthened through the offerings of artists like Slugs & Bugs, Seeds Family Worship, and most recently, Corner Room Music.
Corner Room is no stranger to the Story Warren. We’ve reviewed their other albums here and here. Their most recent album, Remember and Proclaim Volume 2 brings all the quality musicianship with the timelessness of God’s Word that we’ve come to expect.
The album opens with one of my personal favorites, Philippians 4:8-9. Oh, how often I have sung the old-school Steve Green tune to my kids. Reminding my children and students to dwell on “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable,” has been a constant in my parenting and teaching. This fresh take on such a powerful verse has already become a family favorite.
A few tracks in, you’re in for a treat hearing the same sweet young voices on Isaiah 40:8 as we heard on the last album on Isaiah 41:10. Voiced by the daughters of main artist Adam Wright, this track highlights the precious faith of a young child through crystal clear vocals and simple harmonies.
My teenage son’s favorite, 1 John 4:7-12, has an upbeat jazz swing and is like taking a walk in the park with the Gospel.
Each track of this album has a unique style to it, making memorizing these verses delightful and engaging. I sincerely hope you’ll add this to your morning commute, your kitchen dance sessions, and your bedtime routines.
