Leave the Leaves in Autumn
Leave the leaves on Autumn grounds
Let the leafmould mass in mounds
Let them lie while while winter calls
Let them cushion children’s falls
Let them augment tiny sounds
Leaves should lighten little feet
Languid motion should be fleet
Laureled youth is ever-green
Leave the leaves in Autumn
Let the fiery red and gold
Lessen rising, lingering cold
Let the livid Northern sweep
Loathe the lifting of the heap
Let the winter come when told
Leave the leaves in Autumn
