Consider the Whale… and Herman Melville

December 9, 2020 by Isabel Chenot 2 Comments

I made this bookmark for myself for a favorite ‘Moby Dick’ quote, and I wondered if it’s the sort of thing you all at Story Warren might be interested in, as it can be printed on card stock and cut out.

(back)

I’m attaching a pdf for the front, and one for the back, and a file that has both the front and back sheets. The colors printed well for me on cardstock with my printer set to high resolution paper.

Herman Melville well deserves to be read on into the future, so I also found these kid-friendly editions of Moby Dick on Amazon:

The first is unabridged but looks to have incredibly well-done illustrations: Moby Dick the Illustrated Novel, illustrated by Anton Lemaev,

…and the second is abridged and from the cover looks to be vividly illustrated in a style that reminds me of Tintin (I can see Queequeg!).

Calico illustrated classics edition, adapted by Jan Fields and illustrated by Eric Scott Fisher:

Isabel Chenot's first poem as a little girl was about marrying her cat Tig when she grew up: she married a good man instead, but kept scribbling poems and stories.

Lately she loves trying to translate lyric, metaphysical Spanish poetry into English.A small first collection of her own poetry is available at: https://animapoetry.uk/

She especially values Gabriela Mistral's 7th 'Decalogue of the Artist', because it reflects the hope of consolation visible in God's handiwork: "The beauty you create shall be known as compassion and shall console the hearts of men."
