It’s been a heavily theological week for me—between a paper I needed to write for a leadership development course at my church and my weekly Bible study’s focus being on seven key beliefs of Christianity, but for both of those things, I got to spend a lot of time thinking about the person of Jesus and what his coming to earth and sacrificing himself on our behalf really means for us, and well, that’s always a good thing to think about. Jesus himself said is so simply when he talked with Nicodemus that dark night that’s recorded in John’s Gospel: “”For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” There really isn’t a better story than that one.

Walking in the Garden
Eden Flora considers the gardens of the Bible.
- While I wish otherwise, I am not a gardener. What a delight it would be to have an herb garden or flowering plants in my back yard. But the only plant I have is one that sits next to my kitchen sink. And its yellowing leaves do not bode well for the longevity of its life cycle. Even so, I am drawn to the garden imagery God uses throughout the Bible.

Emmanuel Abimbola reminds us that we are free from carrying some things.

A Ballad of Prequels and Stakes
E.R. Scrivener considers what it means to already know the end of the story.
- If I’m being honest, I like to be a little afraid of the story.
Epic fantasy stories—where the fate of an entire kingdom is at stake; love stories—when it seems as if those crossed stars will never align; and grand adventures—when I’m praying that my favorite characters will make it home alive, and whole. I yearn for that point in the story when mere curiosity slips into obsession, when I stay up all night with equal portions of fear and hope just to see how it all ends.
