There’s a path outside my window, all covered with fallen leaves
And I’ve never had the courage to discover where it leads.
Many people live around me, they forever come and go,
But I’ve never seen a single one walk that particular road.
Perhaps there is a loathsome monster lurking around the curve,
Or maybe a pernicious dragon I’m unable to observe.
The path is streaked by shadows and uncertainties abound,
It seems a very likely haunt for a fearsome phantom hound.
Yet timidly I peek outside, hopeful someone’s finally dared
To journey down the lonely road of which I’m painfully aware.
And I hear a haunting whisper, calling me to risk that quiet lane
The invitation is enchanting but sends shivers through my frame!
How on earth could I be strong enough to fight the unseen foes?
In case you have forgotten, this is the path where NO ONE goes!
A gentle answer calms and comforts every worry that I’ve sown.
“My beloved little child, I never said go alone!”
