It Was Most Likely the Beginning of the End of the World

July 12, 2013 by Rebecca Reynolds 4 Comments

Here is a zany –and thank you very much, I will say zany— poem by poet and poetry writer, Rebecca Reynolds. Enjoy the silliness! Also, here’s a fun thing, parents/adult humans: Invite your children to draw an illustration from the poem and post it to our Facebook page and your child may win a prize. I say unto you, prizes will be awarded to some small people up in this warren. Everyone is eligible who self-identifies as a kid and is under 18.  –Sam

The bumblebee tumbled
the Wallaby pie,
the grasshopper grumbled,
then sneezed on a fly.

The fly was polite,
‘Whispered, “Bless you, my friend.”
But the grasshopper, rudely,
sneezed on him again.

The aspen tree shivered,
appalled at the sight,
she pulled up her roots
then ran off in a fright.

Five blueberry dogs
and six strawberry pups
sniffed into the clouds
then they drank them all up.

The Wizard of Scissor
proclaimed with a cry,
“I’m snipping the grass,
from the sea and the sky!”

The Missus of Stitches,
she chuckled and clucked,
“You can snip if you want,
but I’ll sew them back up!”

“With threads from the songs
that the nightingale sings,
Golden bobbins of tizzles
and needles with wings.”

What say you, what say you
the world’s coming to?
There’s mud in the snow,
there’s fire in the dew.

Golashes make sloshes,
whenever it rains,
I’ll love you tomorrow,
forever again.

Delightful imagery, Becca! This would make a fantastic book, especially if it included illustrations from children.

I love this more than words can say. More wild, wonderful poetry in the warren, please!

Delightful! I especially like the blueberry dogs and strawberry pups. I feel like that’s the moment my kids would really start to giggle. (I’ll test this theory later this afternoon.)
