Story Warren Weekend, Vol. 13, Issue 46

Hello all,

I saw some beautiful photographs of northern snow this week. Snow never fails to amaze me—it seems like a miracle of sorts. Tiny bits of moisture descend quietly from the sky, bringing momentary silence and a clean, bright landscape. Enjoy it!

If you’re planning to purchase from the Story Warren Store for Christmas, keep in mind that our first shipping deadline is approaching! Don’t wait to make your selections, so we can be sure to get them to you on time.

Around the Web

Have you ever considered the role of books as a form of technology? The new book by Joel Miller, The Idea Machine, examines the printed word from this angle. Read a review of this new title right here. “Screens clamor for our attention. Books merely wait. Yet quiet technologies are often the most effective at changing the world.”

Here’s a good reminder that with children come messes, and this is right and good. …when the temptation comes to live by Pinterest ideals, the proverb reminds us the tiny clutterers are worth it.”

Around the Warren

Contributor Alan Howell reflected on the children’s book The Arguers and how Advent gives us reason to pause. “Advent is about awaiting the arrival of a different kind of king. Not a modern-day leader, political figure, or Arguer-in-Chief. Instead, Advent is about how King Jesus is the one who shows up in surprising ways to resolve humanity’s own hairy, tangled problem.”

Glenn McCarty gave us his thoughts on anticipating his last Christmas with his oldest son in the house before he heads to college. “My son wasn’t technically born in this house, but we moved in before his first birthday, so he’s spent nearly all his life here. Every corner of this place is touched by memories of our family of four, and nowhere are those memories more poignant than at Christmas.”
