Caine’s Arcade and Loving Young People (You Have to See This)

July 18, 2012 by S. D. Smith 10 Comments

I love this on so many levels, but mostly two. I’ll discuss below, but first: watch.

1) This boy! What a kid. I love this guy. He is so creative, hardworking, and dedicated. What will he do in his life? I love his work, his imaginative recreation of something he has experienced and loved, and his desire to share it with others.

2) These people loving this boy! It really revs up my heart to see this little boy receiving such care and love, to see him given such a gift. We all know stories, heartbreaking, devastating stories of children being mistreated. They blanket the news. There’s an epidemic of fatherlessness, like a cancer in the gut of the world. To see children loved, even one little boy, is a deep delight. I keep thinking of how this short film might inspire many others to do something special (even if not so grand) for a young person they know.

Wonderful.

Beautiful. Caine is adorable. I think there’s something to be said here about this kid having all kinds of unstructured free time so that he can think through and develop his creations.

Heather, I agree! I also think there’s a big lesson about not being embarrassed for your kids. It would’ve been so easy for his dad to shut down his “silly” arcade. But he didn’t. He just loved his son, and loved what his son loved. It’s pretty great. I want to do that for my kids!

This is so neat. Great start to my planning on learning with my kids this fall. Look, he even has a t-shirt that says staff! 🙂 Cute! Talk about a dad that believes in his kid!

I think this is what Jesus meant when he said, “Let the little children come unto me.” Rather than rush in to the store, grab the auto part he needed and leave, Nirvan, the film maker, stopped to appreciate Caine’s creation. What resulted from this Divine appointment blessed not only those two, but also countless others around the world. Thank you for sharing. Thanks to Caine and Nirvan for the example they set for the rest of us!
